Here are my favorite French restaurants in the City. I like them because they tend to make authentic regional French cuisine :-)
- Cafe d'Alsace http://www.cafedalsace.com/ (they make the best choucroute I ever have had in my entire existence - awesome place - have a Mandiant for dessert, it's great)
- Florent http://www.restaurantflorent.com/ (best blood sausage ever -- blood sausage is really excellent, but you kind of need to forget what it is you're eating). If you go there, go and have a drink at Pastis, on one of the corner of the same street.
- Les Halles http://www.leshalles.net/(they make a great Tartiflette - not sure they still have it though, I haven't been there for a while)
- Raoul's http://raouls.com/ (best steak au poivre I have had in the City - on the chic side, almost impossible to get a table without reservation)
- Le Gamin http://www.legamin.com (cheap but very good French retaurant - you can tell, it is usually full of French people; I almost always get the Blanquette de veau there -- the crepe Marron is my favorite dessert)
- Gascogne http://www.gascognenyc.com/ (best Cassoulet I have had in the City - a little expensive, but worth it)
- Cafe Mogador http://www.cafemogador.com/ : a great and cheap french-morocan place. They make a fantastic and very authentic couscous (cheap). I love their spicy carots for appetizer.
While I am at it, Tia Pol (http://tiapol.com/) is my favorite Tapas restaurant. I think it is the highest Zagat-rated (for food) Tapas place in NYC. Go kind of late, because it usually is crowded before 10pm.
